The town is situated on a road that is linked to the whole of
Central Italy. It is a quiet, restful and enjoyable resort in the
magnificent Tuscan countryside and from here you can visit many
fascinating places of interest nearby.
The town, whose ancient centre is medieval oval-shaped borgo,
is full of many historical architectural and artistic remains;
particularly interesting are the Palazzo Pretorio (14th century),
the Theatre (18th century) and several Churches full of important
pictures by Sienese artists of the 15th and 16th centuries.
In the surrounding countryside there are many small villages
and farms that are fun to visit on foot, by bike or on horseback.
Sinalunga is an excellent base for short trips in all
directions: Siena, Arezzo, Perugia, Pienza,
Montepulciano and Montalcino are less than an hour
away by car. It is possible to have a swim in the Trasimeno lake,
or cool down on the top of the Amiata mountain, or admire the
magnificent view of the Sienese clay hills, and of course, all
the Chianti country.
You can also visit the thermal baths of S. Albino, Chianciano
Terme, Rapolano and Bagno Vignoni (this is particularly
fascinating). Florence can be reached in about one hour by car.
Sinalunga is full enchanting little restaurants which serve
tuscan specialities and excellent local wines; there are
horse-riding centres with riding-schools and is also possible to
book guided excursions on horse-back. Cars, bikes and
mountain-bikes can be hired. There are numerous tennis-courts
(some indoor),a swimming-pool, many shops and supermarkets,
banks and chemist's shops. There is an extensive bus service to
all the main tourist spots in Tuscany, and they can also be
reached by train.
